Patented Mechanical Seals Having "Self-aligning" Stationary Seats, End Pump Leaks
Problem:
A large power plant in
N.Y. had a very high maintenance cost with regard to
some 20" x 24" Centrifugal Pumps that pump
approximately 10,000 G.P.M. of dual temp water at 150
PSI.
The main problem consisted of constantly having
to adjust the packing and eventually
replace the worn
shaft sleeves to prevent excessive leakage.
Frontline’s Solution:
Frontline was
called in and converted these pumps from packing to mechanical
seals. Frontline machined the stuffing box faces on site and installed its patented Permaseal® cartridge mechanical seal that is hydraulically balanced, has no springs, has a self-aligning stationary seat and sliding fastening clips to adapt to various stuffing box bolting patterns.
One of
the 20"x24" centrifugal pumps retrofitted
from packing to mechanical seals.
(8) Eight
3 3/8" Permaseal® Cartridge seals
to retrofit
the first (4) four pumps.
The Results Were:
The water loss was totally eliminated.
The maintenance crew found itself
with a lot of extra time to attend to other important
maintenance issues in the power plant.
The replacement of the shaft sleeves
was eliminated since the seals having a stationary "O"-Ring
did not damage the sleeves.
The M.T.B.O. (Mean Time Between
Overhaul) was greatly increased.
The customer saved a considerable
amount of money.
