1. Q: What is the typical delivery time for your various type couplings?
- Double Engagement couplings A thru G with standard stock bore (see our chart): 1 to 2 day delivery.
- Single Engagement design with stock bores: 3 to 5 day delivery. Single Engagement design with non-standard bore including metric sizes: 5 to 7 day delivery.
- Spacer design stock bores and standard spacers - 3 to 5 day delivery. Non-standard bore including metric sizes and/or non-standard spacer length: 5 to 7 day delivery.
2. Q: When should I use the rubber coated bushings versus the solid bushings?
- For most of your applications you should use the standard solid bushing (Part #: BUSH-685-PL-B). For reciprocating machinery and for applications where the start/stop cycle occurs several times per hour. You should use the rubber-coated bushings (Part #: BUSH-685-PL-RB).
3. Q: What is the maximum temperature rating of both bushings?
- Both bushings could be used at an operating temperature of over 300°F.
4. Q: Is 303 Stainless Steel adequate for salt water or cooling tower applications?
- No. In both cases we recommend using 316 Stainless Steel.
5. Q: Can I use the Big Boy® Coupling in vertical applications?
- Yes, provided that the driven equipment has the weight of the shaft independently supported by a bearing close to the coupling.
6. Q: What is the maximum axial movement that the coupling can tolerate?
- Once the coupling is properly installed and set, it can move 3/8" in each direction. (A total travel of 3/4")
